Selous Elephants

This tour will take you in a luxurious 4 days safari in Selous, staying in the wonderful Sable Mountain Lodge.

DAY 1: Selous Game Reserve

Having arrived in Dar es Salaam, you will be transferred to the TAZARA train station for the late afternoon connection to UNESCO World Heritage site, Selous Game Reserve. The train is a wonderful, albeit idiosyncratic experience, which may involve delays but guarantees a rich opportunity to observe rural life in Tanzania and your first glimpse of game in Selous. The train stops in the late evening at Kisaki station where you will be met by the Sable Mountain team and take a short night drive through the bush bordering the reserve to the lodge in time for a late dinner.

In the mid afternoon, perhaps after a swim in the cooling waters of the Sable Mountain pool, you will head out on your first game drive exploring the north west area of the reserve well known for its large elephant population and home to the rare Roosevelt Sable antelope. Game driving back to the lodge for a late lunch, you have an excellent opportunity to see large cats, wild dogs and an extensive list of ungulates including Eland and Greater Kudu as well as large numbers of the more familiar mammals.
